2009-2010 Texas AP Broadcasters Student/Scholarship Competition

Students at colleges and universities in Texas that receive
Associated Press services, or who are interning at or working at AP
member stations, are eligible to apply for scholarships through the
Texas AP Broadcasters.
TAPB commits at least $1,000 each year to be given to students with a
goal of entering any area of broadcast journalism after graduation.

THE RULES:
A. The applicant currently must be enrolled as a freshman, sophomore
or junior at a school that receives AP services, or the student must be
an intern at an AP member station.
A qualified high school senior, with a letter of commitment to attend
a college or university, will also be eligible.
IMPORTANT: The applicant must be planning to continue courses the
summer or fall of 2010 to be eligible. Students who have finished their
course work, or are no longer in school, are not eligible.
Proof of summer/fall enrollment will be required before the checks
are issued.
Scholarship must be spent within one year of the formal announcement
of the award at the annual TAPB banquet. The TAPB board will consider
extenuating circumstances on a case-by-case basis.

B. The applicant must be majoring in radio-television news, or a
related curriculum, with a goal of entering broadcast journalism after
graduation.

C. Please include a resume, especially noting your broadcast
experience and any awards.
Include your mailing address, your home (or cell) & work telephone
numbers, plus your e-mail address.

D. The student should give three examples of his/her work as a
broadcaster. You may include scripts, tapes, DVD's, CD's or other
related information.
Students entries on DVD must use the DVD-minus-R or DVD-plus-R
format.
Mark each item with your name, your station call letters, location &
school.
TAPB retains the right to keep all entries.

E. The application must include a letter of recommendation from a
mass communications instructor, journalism department director or
faculty member in a field related to broadcast journalism.

Scholarship winners will be notified prior to the TAPB awards banquet
on Saturday night, April 24, 2010, at the Headliners Club in Austin and
their checks will be mailed.
Scholarship winners who are available that evening can attend the
banquet at no charge.

Entries must be postmarked by Friday, Feb. 19, 2010.
