2016 Texas AP Broadcasters Radio & TV Contests
It’s time for the annual Texas Associated Press Broadcasters radio & television contests. Spanish entries are welcome. You must be an AP member to enter. The deadline to enter is Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at 11 p.m. (central time). All entries must have aired or been posted online during 2015. All entries must be the on-air version or the online version. An entry cannot be a re-creation. The competition is entirely online.

- Go to: “Find Contests”
- Scroll down to: 2016 Texas AP Broadcasters, click on link, then click on “Log Into The Contest” and then to “Select a Contest” – scroll to 2016 Texas AP Broadcasters and click on that link
- Then go to “Select Media Organization” and find your station call letters
- Then your generic password for the first login is: bnc
- You can then change the password for your specific station
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you were your station’s contest coordinator last year, please use your same password. Promoting your TAPB awards
Each year the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters (“TAPB”) recognizes excellence and achievement in journalism with awards in various categories.
Your promotion must state the “Texas Associated Press Broadcasters” (NOT Associated Press) as the award’s source.
— Promotional use of the word “Best” will apply only to first-place winners.
Any use of a reference to a TAPB award that in any way misleads the public about a TAPB award, including but not limited to distorted or exaggerated claims, is strictly prohibited.
Violations of either the spirit or intent of this prohibition may result in the disqualification of the offending entity from TAPB contests for a one-year period.
TAPB board reserves all rights to determine the truthfulness of any promotion that uses a reference to TAPB awards. The TAPB will be the sole determiner of whether or not a violation has occurred.

— Board approved $50 for October to TAPB webmaster Noble Sprayberry
— Board agreed to have AP’s Diana Heidgerd send an email to most of the TAPB judges from the last contest (18 TV & seven radio), except one former journalist no longer associated with television news for a couple of years. Diana will report back during the next conference call.
- TAPB CONTEST/DATES TO REMEMBER:
Board approved the following schedule/dates for next year’s TAPB competition.
— Have rules posted on www.betterbnc.com in early January, no later than Monday, Jan. 11
— Have the deadline for entries Monday, Feb. 1
— Judging will take place any time Friday, Feb. 5, through Monday, Feb. 15. (NOTE: Sweeps are Feb. 4-March 2).
— Results to be compiled and forwarded to Diana no later than Monday, Feb. 22. Results would move on the wire no later than Wednesday, Feb. 24.
— TAPB board members meet in Dallas on Saturday, March 5, to go over results, decide any contest issues/challenges, pick TAPB scholarship winners and the TAPB-FOIFT winner.
— The TAPB awards banquet is Saturday night, April 9, 2016, at the Headliners Club in Austin.
NOTE: radio & TV rules will be finalized during the board’s December conference call.
- SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION
— Matt Thomas will be in charge of the scholarship competition. The entry deadline will be Monday, Feb. 22, 2016.

- TAPB/FREEDOM OF INFORMATION FOUNDATION OF TEXAS AWARD
— Jenny Martinez will be charge of the FOIFT competition. The entry deadline will be Friday, Feb. 26, 2016. All entries must be submitted at: www.betterbnc.com
- DISCUSSION/MANAGEMENT OF TAPB CONTEST
— Discussion about hiring an individual who currently handles 2-3 other AP contests for this region. To be continued.
— Texas AP Bureau Chief Dale Leach is in charge of securing the contract withwww.betterbnc.com for the radio/TV competition. Dale will let the board know the cost.
